Products Engineering Manager

Job DescriptionSRI, a world leading not-for-profit research institute, is establishing a scalable capability to enable world changing technologies to transition from the lab-to-products for both government and commercial markets.

The Products Engineering Manager will be expected to establish a team capable of collaborating across the SRI institute as well as with external partners to drive new product development for the Product Transition group, resulting in multiple highly differentiate and profitable business segments.

This position reports to the General Manager/Vice President, Product Transition as part of the Integrated Systems and Solutions Division, one of five SRI divisions.

The goal of the recently formed Product Transition effort is to grow such that it becomes a stand-alone division of SRI, eventually transitioning to a fully owned, for profit subsidiary.

The current Product Line focuses are on Low Light CMOS Image sensor/cameras, Test & Measurement tools for video streams, and High Dexterity Tele-Present Robots.

The successful candidate will be charged with establishing the full system engineering capabilities necessary for all the SRI Product Transition, Product lines.

The individual will play a pivotal role to put a diverse engineering organization in place to drive differentiated roadmaps in each of the current and future thrust areas.

She/He will be expected to work collaboratively across all of SRI to pull together the necessary components of technology to create compelling product roadmaps.

Within the Product Transition team, the individual will be expected to work in a matrix fashion with multiple Product Line Managers, Business Development professionals, Applications engineering, NPI engineering, Supply Chain and Quality teams to drive business success.QualificationsRequirements:The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of providing leadership for diverse engineering organizations capable of systems architecture/design, electrical and mechanical engineering, optics, embedded and control software, instrumentation, testing, reliability and supporting transition of new products to volume production.

Technical depth and breadth in the focus application areas as well as very strong people interaction, communication, and leadership skills, are required.

Building strong and productive intra-company relationships at all levels, as well as developing and managing engagements with external 3rd party engineering firms and Contract Manufactures will be foundational.

The selected individual will have demonstrated the ability to handle complex topics and translate those into concrete actions to help grow the business.

She/He will need to be comfortable taking personal responsibility and being held accountable for the outcome.

Desirable personal characteristics include a natural curiosity for technology, a product mindset, a passion for growing business, and an instinct for forging relationships with stakeholders.

Qualifications:BS or MS degree in Engineering or Science with 15+ years of relevant technical and leadership experience.
