Operations Manager

Lindeblad Piano Restoration

This is a Full-time position in Dover, NJ posted November 21, 2021.

For 101 years, Lindeblad Piano has provided custom piano rebuilding and refinishing, now completing about 300 pianos annually.

We are the largest restorer of Steinway pianos in the United States, bringing together the many moving parts of this process to deliver the highest quality product, at the highest level of customer service.

All piano restoration work is performed at Lindeblad Piano’s Restoration Center in Dover, New Jersey by a staff of 25 skilled craftsmen and technicians.

The Operations Manager supervises Restoration Center staff and their work, and is responsible for ensuring orderly and efficient execution of all operations.

This position reports to company ownership, and coordinates with the Quality Assurance Director for meeting standards of work, and the Director of Sales on planning for incoming workflow.

This position does not require experience with either playing or manufacturing pianos.

What is required is a broad set of skills applicable to a manufacturing environment, and the ability to adapt these skills to customized restoration processes.
Plan and maintain the overall work schedule.

Receive and verify the specifications for each project, determine the required material and personnel resources, and continually adapt the plan in order to stay on time, and within budget.

Supervise all personnel in the Restoration facility.

This includes the department leaders, as well as administering performance assessments.

Display excellent leadership by effective communication of the production plan, winning buy-in where needed, and projecting credible authority.

Conduct weekly meetings with each department leader to maintain an accurate mutual understanding of expectations and progress of projects.

Shoulder the responsibility for making effective, fair, and legally compliant decisions relating to personnel management, including pay rates, hiring, and termination.

Make independent decisions about the order in which projects will be addressed.

Handle scheduling of the facility staff, managing vacation and personal time-off requests.

Document the condition of—and parts included with—customer pianos as they arrive in the facility.

Communicate with customers to provide photos, coordinate on approval of optional work, or ensure satisfaction with custom refinishing color specifications.

Create and maintain the work orders which travel with each project.

Order all materials needed for projects to proceed smoothly.

Capture operational data via project tracking tools (from employee time sheets, and other sources).

Handle administrative HR-related record-keeping (e.g.

healthcare paperwork) and implementation of company policies.
Skills and Experience Sought
5+ years experience in a manufacturing environment.

2+ years experience in supervising processes and personnel.

Bachelor’s degree in management, business, manufacturing, or relevant field a plus, but not required.

Proficient with MS and Google suites, Salesforce, and able to learn new software.

Knowledge of Asana & Harvest software is a plus.

Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.

Position is on-premises at our Restoration Center located in Dover, NJ.

Full time, weekdays, approximately 7:00 a.m.

to 4:00 p.m.

$70,000-$80,000 salary plus performance bonuses
