VASCEPA® (icosapent ethyl) capsules are the first-and-only prescription treatment approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) comprised solely of the active ingredient, icosapent ethyl (IPE), a unique form of eicosapentaenoic acid. VASCEPA® was launched in the United States in January 2020 as the first and only drug approved by the U.S. FDA for treatment of the studied high-risk patients with persistent cardiovascular risk after statin therapy. VASCEPA® was initially launched in the United States in 2013 based on the drug’s initial FDA approved indication for use as an adjunct therapy to diet to reduce triglyceride levels in adult patients with severe ( 500 mg/dL) hypertriglyceridemia. In addition to the United States, VASCEPA® is approved and sold in Canada, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates. In Europe, marketing authorization was granted to icosapent ethyl in the European Union for the reduction of risk of cardiovascular events in patients at high cardiovascular risk, under the brand name VAZKEPA.

General Responsibilities

The Manager, Planning and Procurement will manage a network of global external manufacturers, maintain end to end production schedules and conduct inter-company teleconferences. This position will also support efforts for CMOs process improvements and provide technical support to various 3rd Party manufacturers. The Manager, Planning and Procurement must be comfortable interacting with various internal departments within the ERP environment. Must be able to perform Oracle transactions, generate ad-hoc reports and transfer them into MS Excel. The Manager, Planning and Procurement will work closely with Logistics to assist with arranging transportation, provide logistical support to internal and external partners, and minimize impact to production schedules.


Primary Objectives

  • Maintain manufacturing schedules and distribute routine forecasts to CMOs based on Board Approved Plan and overall Supply Chain strategy
  • Manage demand planning for current SKU portfolio and new product launches within complex supplier matrix
  • Review and distribute supplier-specific POs
  • Develop and track performance metrics of and identify areas of improvement for global network of CMOs
  • Monitor open orders, manage exceptions, and implement risk mitigation activities to ensure on time delivery and quick resolution of any potential issues
  • Oversee timelines for open process improvement projects and expedite various orders as required by current inventory levels
  • Maintain compliance with terms and pricing as dictated by Supplier Agreements and support contract negotiations
  • Track and reconcile stock on hand, prepare and distribute monthly reporting and project future inventory levels
  • Collect and analyze data and generate periodic Inventory Dashboards, KPIs, and Supply Chain metrics to assist with decision making for SCM, operations strategy and long term strategic planning
  • Oversee three-way matching system to verify routine invoicing and respond to periodic Audit Requests
  • Maintain detailed spend analysis, identify and drive cost savings initiatives, and support annual budgeting cycle
  • Provide support for all supply chain functions including shipping, receiving, logistics, and other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications

Education/Training: Minimum of BS degree in engineering, science or materials management. APICS or CPIM certification preferred (or equivalent)

Skill(s): Detailed knowledge of procurement, inventory management, and logistics. Excellent organizational, analytical and computer skills. Excellence at multi-tasking and ability to handle changing priorities with a strong sense of urgency. Excellent attention to detail, problem solving, and prioritization skills. Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines within a fast paced environment. Must be an independent and critical thinker. Must demonstrate applied knowledge of various manufacturing technologies and ERP/MRP systems (Oracle). Must work well individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, both written and verbally. Power user in MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of supply chain experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
