Development Director

The Children's Home Society of New Jersey

This is a Full-time position in Trenton, NJ posted November 24, 2021.

We are a statewide community based not for profit agency with our central administrative office in Trenton, New Jersey.

The Development Director will oversee staff to produce division’s business plan for the coming year.

Will be responsible for analysis reports of each marketing activity, provide educational leadership for learning and development of marketing and funds development, and produce effective written newsletters, annual reports, and mailed solicitations.

Responsibilities include:
Create new and maintain special events.


Marketing a Gala, golf outing, Red Rose Day, Trenton Education Dance Institute events, and Driscoll Strawberry Days).

High involvement with helping Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors implement capital campaign.
Design and utilize successful use of social networking technology, website technology, and internet engines.
Develop enduring positive relationships with donors, auxiliary, board, supporters, and the business community on behalf of the agency.
Supervise a staff of three professionals and some individual volunteers to achieve the overall goals for maximum marketing, fundraising, cultivation and maintenance of individual and corporate donors and corporate volunteers, publicity of agency’s services for client referrals, and for name recognition.
The position is supervised by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and requires working closely with the CEO and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Director of Corporate Development and Volunteerism, and all program directors, board directors, community members, vendors, and donors.

Close communication and collaboration with CEO is required with yearly planning and needs as they arise during the year.
Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required, majors include marketing/fundraising/communications or English.

Computer competency, clear writing proficiency, ability to speak to groups.

Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years of proven success as marketing/funds development/management/supervision
Five years of proven ability to direct and supervise marketing, funds development staff.

Successful experience working with donors, volunteers and corporate volunteers, social services staff, board, local and state leaders.
Advanced skills/knowledge in designing plans and preparing budgets for marketing, fundraising, public relations, social media networking, and website technology.

Ability to oversee graphic designer and coordinate with videographers.

Experience in carrying out a capital campaign.
Proven success in creating, planning, implementing special events such as Gala, golf outing, remote events.
Ability to effectively speak to community and corporate groups.
Excellent sense of humor and ability to make volunteers, donors, and the board have fun while volunteering.
Exceptional people skills in working with and building positive relationships with board/donors of all ages.

Be a good listener.
Ability to write articles for newspapers, letters to donors, letters to the editor.
Ability to oversee layout of newsletter/reports/annual reports/flyers/brochures into camera-ready layouts.
Advanced computer skills with a variety of relevant software.

Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office programs: Word (Mail Merge), Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and proficient in Donor Perfect, Quark, Publisher, Photoshop C53, Adobe Standard.

Ability to understand donation system online capacities.
Ability to prepare regular reports that track and evaluate donations, revenue, and expense of special events and all fundraising results.

Ability to create reports on excel sheets.
Ability to create and implement yearly MCFD business plan and timeline for coming year’s development/marketing activities with outcomes for each activity that are all measurable, with responsibilities assigned to appropriate staff.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, crisis needs when they arise, keeping MCFD staff with timely assignments following planned calendar
