Certified Medical Assistant / CMA

Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center

This is a Full-time position in Montclair, NJ posted May 26, 2023.


The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for delivery of quality patient services, office communication, and information storage and retrieval services to patients and staff by performing related reception and clerical duties. He/she will also assist physicians in providing primary health care and management of patient care.

  • Under the supervision of the Clinical Coordinator or Office Manager, screen interview, counsel and provide direct patient care
  • Document all clinical observations, findings and services provided in the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Report all abnormal observations and findings to the appropriate medical provider in a timely manner verbally or via Skype
  • Obtain and document all vital signs including: height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, respiration, pulse, pain assessment, body mass index (BMI), and last menstrual period (LMP) 
  • Assist patients in completing assessment forms including, but not limited to, Consents, Depression (PHQ), Functional Assessment and Patient Education Tool, as per Center protocols
  • Administer and appropriately document the following tests/procedures/treatments as ordered by providers including but not limited to:  EKGs, CLIA waived Testing, Venipuncture/obtaining Labs Specimens and Administering Vaccines according to Center protocol. Assist with examinations and procedures (i.e. colposcopy, pelvic exam, urinary catheterization, endometrial biopsies, LEEP, IUD insertions, etc.), as needed and as per national standards and Center protocols
  • Demonstrate proper use of assisted devices including walkers, canes and crutches; escorting patients when necessary
  • Responsible for retrieving appropriate laboratory, diagnostic and radiology reports as requested
  • Assist in transporting paperwork, and other materials between sites when appropriate
  • Review Rx, Results and Office voicemail folders daily and the, Nurse/ physician pools, daily for tasks, follow-ups as assigned, send Urgent Lab Recall and Missed Appointment letters, as required
  • Responsible for notifying Clinical Coordinator of supply and medication shortages in a timely manner
  • Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, sterilization and maintaining clinical equipment and medical instruments as per protocol
  • Responsible for preparing and organizing the supplies in the examination rooms, including: preparing examination table, ensuring that


  • High school or GED required
  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience as a medical assistant
  • Must possess a Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant certification through AMT, NHA, NCCT, or AAMA
  • BLS certification required
  • Bilingual is a plus
  • Must be able to work 2 days per week at Bloomfield ImmediCenter location
