Electrical Designer II

We are looking for a talented Electrical Designer II who will join our industry leading Electrical Engineering team out of our office in Somerset, NJ.The Electrical Designer will work with Engineers on various projects as assigned by the Electrical Engineering department Director.

This position will play a role in the entire design process including but not limited to preliminary assessments, concept creation, design, problem resolution, drawing and specification production as well as customer and vendor accessibility.

The Electrical Designer may work on several concurrent projects and, at times, may assist as a technical expert on a specialized design.Job Duties and Responsibilities+ Assist with the development of design concepts; prepares documents during design development phase and detail design phases.

Corrects and updates electrical design documents.

Develops solutions to design problems.

Prepare engineering studies and schematic design for new systems and analyze operation of existing systems.+ Uses computer aided design technologies to develop sketches, drawings and construction documents.

Reviews drawings and documents to assure compliance with company design and production standards.+ Works with equipment suppliers/vendors to obtain the necessary information needed for design completion.+ Ensure acceptable levels of quality and checks for coordination of work to assure documents reflect design intent and necessary coordination.

Coordinate all aspects of project document completion within company and externally with clients and other design professionals.+ Coordinates design work with related engineering disciplines.

Attend job and construction meetings and participate in the coordination of the work.+ Size wire, cable tray, conduit and over-current protection devices.+ Specify equipment with the engineer and coordinate with vendors.+ Utilize electrical engineering documents including cable schedules, electrical load lists and client drawing specifications.+ Calculate conduit and wire fill parameters with NEC requirements.+ Coordinates design work with related engineering disciplines.

Attend job and construction meetings and participate in the coordination of the work.+ Prepare floor plans showing electrical device layouts, circuitry, lighting fixtures, equipment, etc.

Coordinate locations and loads with other diciplines.+ Prepare one-line diagrams with input from engineers.+ Prepare electrical loads and develop panel schedules with input from engineers.+ Layout fire alarm devices on floor plans.+ Layout lighting fixtures on plans and demonstrate fundamental knowledge of lighting concepts and calculations.+ Understands and correctly applies concepts of emergency and normal power systems.+ Coordinate with architect, process mechanical, civil, and structural staff to develop efficient designs and identify and mitigate interferences between disciplines.+ Minimum 3 years’ previous electrical design experience.+ Technical or Associate Degree from an accredited technical institution or college in electrical engineering is a plus.+ Must be proficient in the use of computer for design and understand CAD operations (AutoCAD).+ General knowledge of all aspects of electrical systems and codes.+ Experience with Revit, SKM or other electrical software is a plus.+ Has a demonstrated ability to solve problems, communicate effectively to all key personnel, manage time efficiently and produce correct design within budgeted time.+ Experience in Commercial/Industrial Electrical installations+ Experience with designing electrical distribution.+ Demonstrated ability to design low voltage systems such as fire alarm and security, power and lighting plans+ Working knowledge of current industry codes and standards (NEC, API, NEMA, NESC, and NFPA).About UsIPS-Integrated Project Services is a global leader in developing innovative and cost effective solutions for the engineering, construction, commissioning and qualification of complex pharmaceutical and biotech research and manufacturing facilities.
